James W. Page

submitted by Phil Page

James W. Page died in Bibb County on 1 September 1836 and was buried there. He was an early settler in Bibb Co. [James was an early settler of Cahawba County, Alabama Territory which later became Bibb County, Alabama.  James was listed as a juror for the Superior Court according to the minutes of Cahawba County Court, 1818 November Term.  His sister, Jane Page Lewis, and her husband, Joshua Lewis, were living there prior to 28 February 1818 when Joshua was appointed a Constable for his community.  James settled his family in Southeastern Cahawba County on a little creek, later to become known as Benson Creek, which runs into Mulberry Creek some distance away.  The location today is between Isabella School and Highway 22.  James became a very prosperous farmer.  He built a dam across Benson Creek and constructed mills to grid wheat and corn and to saw lumber.  The old house that he built for his home was still standing in 1981 across the road from the dam and millpond where his mill once stood.]  His family married into the following families of the Bibb County area:  GOODWIN, LEWIS, HAYES, LANGSTON, HUGHES,
HARRISON, CHISM/CHISUM, WHATLEY, WOOLLEY, AND OTHERS.

I hope this will give you a little information on James W. Page's family.  I would be glad to provide information to anyone researching the above listed families.
