Thaddeus Cross Wallace

Submitted by Frank Wallace

Thaddeus Cross Wallace, in 1861 enlisted in company D, Twentieth Alabama infantry, under Captain Richard Hudson Pratt, served as orderly sergeant about six months when he became sick and was sent home. A short time later when he had recovered he enlisted in company H, Twenty-fifth Alabama infantry, and served twelve months, but was discharged again due to illness. After a short time he again offered his services but was refused by the surgeon on account of his poor health. As he was determined to serve the Confederate cause, he persuaded the enrollment officers to receive him into the army, and he served until he was taken prisoner at the battle of Nashville, Tenn., and was intered at Camp Douglas at Chicago, Ill. He was kept six months and was released after taking the oath of allegence to the Union States and returned to his home in Bibb County, Alabama where he ran his fathers farm as a share cropper until he married on June 8, 1878.
