Daniel J. BROWN enlisted at Scottsville Alabama on the 20th day of March 1862 to serve three years. He was a private serving under Captain John A. Jones Company B of the 44th Regiment of Confederate States of America Alabama Volunteers. Some of his assignments were, detailed on guard at Coos Bridge June 1862 and detached to guard Baggage at Selma Alabama June 30th 1862. He was wounded in the shoulder at the Battle of Manases August 30, 1862 and sent to Richmond Hospital. Certificate of Disability For Discharge reads: We find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of injuries recieved from the bursting of a shell, the shoulder was dislocated and the arm so much injuried that we further declare our belief that he is certainly unfit for duty in any departments of the government. Signed by W. P. Reese Surgeon. Discharged to Bibb County, Scotsville, Alabama. Daniel was listed as being 18 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall, fair complexion, dark eyes, auburn hair and occupation listed as farmer.
