The Court activity spanned the period from 11 October 1890 to 10 March 1893.

It is believed that Lewis J. Ballard was born in 1818 in Georgia.  He died at residence in Fayette County, 20 Nov 1877 (based on initial petition of Administrator and son, James W. BALLARD).  Perhaps the reason there was such a long period between Lewis J. Ballard's death and the Probate Court activity is that he left no will and that his widow, Martha A. (MARDIS) BALLARD, continued to live on the farm until her death, 2 April 1890.  A petition to probate and divide the estate among the heirs was then filed 11 October 1890.

The Court MINUTES and RECORDS provide a lot of insight into the family for descendents and for Ballard researchers.
