Aikin Cemetery is/was located at T22S R10W S11. Robert Aikin was a Revolutionary War Soldier. He died May 26 1827. Estate was recorded in ORPHANS COURT BOOK 2, P. 92-94 OWNED LAND IN TWN.22S R 10W SECT 11 WARRANT # 4059 AND 4099 TUSC PLAT BOOK.

AIKIN PRIVATE CEMETERY

On a place now (1951) owned by Louis C. Conant, about 5 miles on Greensboro road from Tuscaloosa, are some broken tombstones, now used for a sidewalk. The Conants have owned the place only a short time and the sidewalk had been there for years. Parts of three stones were taken from a family cemetery back of the place, but no one knows where the cemetery was and we could not find it. Probably all the stones were removed and it was plowed under. We pieced the stones together with the following results. Copied 1950 by Pauline Jones Gandrud:

who was born in
State of Pennsylvania
March 13th 1760
and departed this life
May 26th 1827
He was a whig Soldier in the war
living and dying
without reproach

Erected to the
memory of
MARGARET JULIA ANN AIKIN
who was born in Chester District
South Carolina
January 15th 1800
and departed this life
(stone broken through date but think that is right)
after a series of afflictions
September 22nd 1834
She bore the chastening of Providence
with exemplary fortitude
and died in Christian hope
Blessed are they that mourn
for they shall be comforted

Thank you Mrs Gandrud! What you had the foresight to do paid dividends to me forty years later in the 1990s! because Czarina M. Aikin is my Great Great Great Grandfather, Solomon B. Stewart's daughter! Fyi, after James L.G. Aiken died, she married a Leonard Mitchell Burford from Wilcox County. He died too, and Czarina is buried next to her mother and sisters in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Scooba, Kemper County, Mississippi.

For the TN and AL folks, Czarina Stewart was born in either LCT, or Marion Co, AL. For the Mississippi folks, Czarina and hubby James L.G. Aiken lived next to parents Solomon B. and Sarah C. Stewart in Kemper Co or Leake Co, I don't remember which . For the Fayette AL folks, Solomon had land in Marion / Fayette, and I would bet you a dollar he may have been one of the reasons Glen Allen was originally known as Stewart's Gap. He had land there as well.
