Britton Perry and Mary Dennis Perry of Perry County, Alabama
Britton Perry was born on January 10, 1786 in Putnam County, Georgia. He was the son of John Perry and Sarah Ferrell Perry. He died October 13, 1831 in Perryville, Perry County, Alabama. He married Mary Dennis on November 24, 1806 in Hancock County, Georgia. She was the daughter of Joseph Dennis of Jones County, Georgia. She was also a sister of the Rev. John Dennis, who was a well known minister in the Perry County area.
Britton Perry came into Perry County, Alabama with his father and mother, John and Sarah Ferrell Perry in 1819. His father was born in Nash County, North Carolina.
The Perry family traveled with the Dennis, Crawford, and Henry families from Georgia into Alabama when the new territory was beginning to fill with families moving westward.
Britton and Mary Dennis Perry had the following children: (1) John Perry was born in Georgia 1807-before 1850 married Mary Stanley on July 16, 1835 in Bibb Co., Al.; died in Bibb County, Alabama. (2) Betsy Perry was born in Georgia 1810-1837 married Kessian Smith, (3) Mathias A. Perry was born in Georgia 1812-1871 married (1) Susan Reed (2) Lucinda Shaver (3) Harriett Green Brown Mc Spadden; died Bibb Co., Al., (4) Nancy Eleanor Perry was born in Georgia 1814- married Jabez Brazille on February 12, 1836 in Perry Co., Al., (5) Oliver Hazard Perry was born in Putnam Co., Georgia 1816-1887 married Lucy Allen Glenn on August 24, 1836 in Perry County, Al. He died in the Spring of 1887 and was buried in Perryville, Al., (6) Sarah “Sally” Perry was born in Georgia 1818-1851, married Jesse M. Mays on December 1, 1835 in Perry Co., Al., died Perry Co., Al., (7) Rebecca Perry was born in Perry Co., Al. 1820- ___ , married Robert Jones on January 22, 1841 in Perry Co., Al., (8) William Marshall Perry was born in Perry Co., Alabama 1822- ____, married Ruth Hicks Guthrie on Feb. 26, 1852. (9) Joseph Dennis Perry was born in Dallas or Perry Co., Al. 1824-. Death possibly was in Okolona, Ms. in 1860. (10) Benjamin Franklin Perry was born in Perry Co., Al. in 1826. He died June 17, 1863, place unknown. He married Sarah Jane Taylor on June 22, 1846 in Dallas County, Al. She was the daughter of Pleasant Taylor. She died after 1870 in Heards Beat, Perry Co., Al., (11) Julia Ann (Julian) Perry was born in Perry Co., Al. 1828-1897, married William W. Lumley on Jan. 20, 1850 in Perry Co., Al. She is buried in the Ocmulgee Baptist Church Cemetery in Perry Co., Al., (12) Martha C. Perry was born in Perry Co., Al. 1830-1852, married William A. Kelly on November 29, 1848 in Perry Co., Al., (13) Elizabeth Perry was born in Perry Co., Al, dates unknown, married Mr. Kirkland.
