Daniel Long (Dr.)

p 114 - "Dr. Daniel Long, originally from Laurens District SC, was among the earliest settlers in Perry County, settling near Marion in 1818. (but see Uniontown).

"A graduate of the Jefferson Medical College, he had served in the U.S. Army as a surgeon from 1812-15.
fn 20 - "He was born on September 22, 1786, died in Dallas Co. AL on December 22, 1861, and is buried in the Fairview Church Cemetery."

"In 1824, he married Mary*, the daughter of Thomas Billingsley .
* fn 21 - "Mary [Billingsley] Long was born in NC on December 15, 1803; she died June 27, 1884."

"According to the 1830 census, [Daniel Long] was the owner of 12 slaves. in 1839, he and his family were living on Lafayette St. in Marion.

"He died on December 22, 1861, and his tombstone states that he had been 'A Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church for near 40 years.' "
