Griffin Family 1820-1865

John and Robert, sons of:
Hardy; brother of Archibald

John R. Griffin was born May 22, 1837 AL; John enlisted in Company K, 11th Alabama on June 11th, 1861 at Marion, AL; admitted March 13, 1862 to Chimborazo Hospital No. 3 with double pneumonia, and died on March 20, 1862.

Robert B. Griffin was born on May 26, 1843 AL; Robert enlisted in Company K on March 1, 1862 in Perry County, Alabama. He served the entire war; captured August 22, 1864 and taken to Point Lookout, MD. Eventually released, but did not live long - died April 12, 1865 in Mt. Zion, Alabama.
Neither John nor Robert were ever married.

Brothers' parents were:
Hardy G. Griffin, born Oct. 31,1811 NC; died April 27, 1870, Mt. Zion, AL
married Feb. 14, 1833, Perry Co. Elizabeth E. Boyles Griffin, born September 1, 1814.

Griffin ancestors moved from North Carolina to Perry County, Alabama sometime in the 1820s.
Hardy Griffin (above)was my gggGrandfather Archibald Griffin's brother.
Archibald Griffin lived and died around present day Moundville, Alabama.

Oct '98 Ron Griffin writes "I am currently involved in research on the 11th Alabama Infantry during the Civil War, with the hope of producing a book on the regiment. I had two Perry County ancestors in Co. K: John and Robert Griffin. I am seeking information from those who had ancestors in the Independent Volunteers, Co. K 11th Alabama.
