Anderson Davis and Lucinda Wright were married June 1820 in Wilkes County, GA. They may be the young couple in John Wright’s household in the 1820 Federal GA census of that year as the Davis family had already migrated to Alabama.
Anderson was the last child born to Lewis Cookson Davis, RS and first wife Sarah Anderson. Lucinda Wright was the daughter of John Wright and his wife Durcilla Griffin who migrated from NC to Wilkes County, GA to Perry County, AL then Union Parrish, LA where he died. The connection between Lucinda and her father is poorly documented since he died without a will.
By 1830 the couple had migrated to Alabama. A. B. Davis was enumerated in the Autauga County census with only one person in the household. His name was also found in the land patent records with the date of April 1820. Lewis Cookson Davis was living in Autauga County at this time. Also, in Lowndes County there is an Anderson B. Davis age 30-40 with wife age20-30 and a house full of children that matches our line according to their ages. He too had land patent records. I believe this is the same person.
In 1840 they are not longer in Lowndes County, Lewis Cookson Davis has died, and his A. B. Davis is living in Autauga County where his wife’s family had settled.
In 1850 Anderson and family are enumerated in the Perry County census on Heard’s Beat. And, in the Federal Cenus of Perry County 1860 Dwelling 226, A. B. Davis age 63 and wife Lucinda age 60 are enumerated with children William Thomas and Elizabeth (Betty). Also in the Davis household is a William J. Cook age 50 SC idiotic. The relationship between the Wm. Cook and the Davis family is unknown.
Between the 1860 census, and the 1870 Census, which included the Civil War, Anderson and Lucinda died. Family history states that Anderson and Lucinda were buried in the Heard Cemetery near Selma, Alabama: HEARD CEMETERY, 323928N 0871623W, Marion North). Their graves must be unmarked.
Children to this Union:
1. Lewis C. b. February 8,1821 in NC according to the 1850 census and died March 5, 1885. He married on August 12, 1844 in Autauga County, Alabama to Elizabeth E. Bailey b. September 1824 & d. July 24, 1918. He served in the Mexican War. Recent research shows that Lewis migrated to Bibb County by 1860 and then to Elliot, Robertson County, Texas after the Civil War. Children to this union were: Leroy Ellington (Jr.) April 24, 1846 or 48 d. 1923, John Anderson (Jack) b. Oct. 19, 1855 d.1925, Catherine b. 1860, Lewis (Buck) b. 1863, Lillian b. September 22, 1870, and Rebecca b. 1881 d. 1971. Leroy Jr. was enumerated in the 1850 AL census age 4 and in the Texas 1900 census born 1848. All died in Texas.
2. Sarah Ann Davis 22 March 1822 then migrated to Union Parrish/1860 LA census.
3. John Davis born January 4, 1824 married Susanna Lawson in Perry County, Alabama on, then migrated to Union Parish, LA. He is found in 1860 census next door to an elderly John Wright, his grandfather. Susanna Lawson was the daughter of John Lawson and Blake and Cynthia Jackson’s daughter Rebecca. These lines came from SC to GA and then to Perry County, AL
4. Leroy Ellington born October 25, 1825 in GA died June 4,1894 ...grave is Pisgah Baptist Cemetery in Perry Co. Al and marked CAPTAIN DAVIS battle with the 28th division. Leroy E. is enumerated in brother Lewis’ household in the 1850 Perry County, Al census. There is also a 4 years old Leroy Jr. in the household. This child belongs to brother Lewis. Leroy Sr. and his wife Miss Martha Walker. Some report that they were a childless couple, yet they are enumerated with children in the household in the 1870 census. She received a widow’s pension for his military service. Some researchers state they helped with the Mount children. Leroy served in the Mexican War as a private in the Perry Volunteers
5. Mary A. E. b. 1828 married in 1850 a tailor named Joseph Powell Mount born 1819 Bloomington, New York. There were 4 children to this union including the oldest son named Anderson Barton Davis Mount. Their wedding certificate shows that her father Anderson Davis performed the service. After Mary's death, Joe married in 1865 her younger sister Elizabeth Ann (Betty) and more children born. Joe served in the Mexican War in the Perry Volunteers, never returned north after this war, and living in Alabama all his life serving in the Confederate Army. Both his bride’s names are documented as “Elizabeth Ann Davis’ on their marriage records: one Mary Ann Elizabeth and the other Elizabeth Ann.
6. Alvin Perkins b. August 9, 1826 in Alabama according to 1850 census d. December 28,1904 in Lincoln Parish, La killed by train while walking the 5 miles to town; married Mary Frances Heard. Both are buried in Fellowship Baptist Cemetery near Dubach, Louisiana. This southern Heard family has a well-established family history that dates back to one governor of Georgia, 2 governors of Louisiana, several lines serving in the Revolutionary War. All this documented in the book SOUTHERN HEARD FAMILY by Marguerite Malone 1985. Alvin left Alabama with the some other Perry County families in 1857 and migrated west. They had 8 children and one being Anderson Barton Cookson Davis. Anderson Davis married Peninah/Nina Mae Hopkins, daughter of William David and Rebecca Sanders Hopkins also of Perry County.
7. Jesse Cookson b. August 11,1831 d. November 15, 1911 in Perry Co, AL and married Mary Poppie Hopkins on October 30,1853. Mary was born in England on October 1, 1838 and died November 15,1911 Both are buried Welcome Church, Perry County, AL. 10 children born to this union.
8. Lucinda Caroline b.1834 married William Jones on December 17, 1855 in Perry County, Alabama. Both are buried in Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery in Dallas County, AL. This union had 6 children and very little is known about this line. William Jones witnessed the 1888 document dividing the late John Wright’s Alabama land between his heirs.
9. Elizabeth Ann b. February 29, 1836 married her sister's widower Joe Mount on June 27,1865 they had a son and a daughter. She received his Mexican War Widow’s pension.
10. Anderson Barton Cookson b.1838 nothing is known of this child until recently. It is believed that he migrated west with his siblings Alvin, Sarah, and John Davis. The Anderson B. C. Davis who died at Gettysberg was in a unit from LA and believed to be him
11. William Thomas. (Billy) b. February 17, 1840 married Sue Martin. He died May 31, 1912 to this union was born a son and a daughter. The daughter married a Mr.Friday. He and Sue were buried in Fellowship Cemetery, Perry County, AL.
12. Henry M. b March 25, 1843 and died 6 months later.
