William Easley Blassingame

p 52 - "Blassingame was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on May 28, the son of Gen. John and Elizabeth Nancy (Easley) Blassingame, the former a private in the Revolution and a soldier in the War of 1812.

"In 1817, William E. Blassingame graduated from South Carolina College; he moved to Perry Couny in 1830.

" A founder of the Marion Female Seminary and of Judson College, he served for one session as a state senator, 1838-9 in the AL Legislature.

"Blassingame married Eliza P. Townes and they had 6 children. He died in Marion in 1841.

"An inventory of his estate, taken just after his death, shows that he owned 34 slaves, nine mules, one yoke of oxen, 11 cows and 7 hoggs.

fn 20 - "Eliza P. (Townes) Blassingame was born in Greenville, SC on March 9, 1802, and died in Marion on October 11, 1857. She is buried in the Marion Cemetery beside her husband."
