The Birmingham Public Library (Jefferson County) contains an excellent department, the Southern History Library. Complete microfilm of available census records for most southern states can be found here as well as a very good selection of material for almost every county in Alabama and every southern state.

Huntsville Public Library
The library's Heritage Room is the nerve center for genealogical research. It currently houses census records for all southern states, but also has expanded its collection to cover many other states of the U.S.   Numerous family histories are available along with a tremendous genealogical magazine collection. Family files are also maintained as part of the collection.

This library's Local History and Genealogy Collection contains resources for researching Mobile County. Film for census records of Alabama as well as other southern states is available.

Town and County Library, located in Clayton, is a member of the Barbour County Library Cooperative. For those interested in Genealogy, the library has an extensive collection of books, some received in the last few months. Copies of family and cemetery records have been contributed by local citizens through the years. New books are added often along with a very large collection of compact disks from the Family Tree Maker
