BERRY  •  FARQUHAR  •  JEFFRIES (JEFFERIES)

Michelle Berry Thu Jul 5 08:55:36 2007
I am writing to ask about Henry B Berry ( I believe the middle name is Bradford).  He died in 1895 in Fayette County.  I am particularly stuck on his marriages.  Some sources show him married to Elizabeth Farquhar in Fayette County on Sept 11, 1866.  I have also found some information that he was married to a Malissa Jeffries and had 6 children with her.  I am fairly certain this has to be the same person because the date of death is the same.  I am trying to find out if he was married twice, if the Farquhar marriage is accurate, or just what the story is.  Thank you to anyone who can help.

HARTON  •  BARKLEY

Kathy McClendon Mon Sep 24 19:20:10 2007
Does anyone know where Greene T. HARTON of Fayette County, Alabama was buried, what cemetery?  When did he die and how?  I know that he was J. P. for Fayette County in 1847; sheriff 1850-1852; County Commissioner 1856-1859 (from p. 70 of Looking Back: Fayette County Alabama 1824-1974 by Evelyn Walker Robertson, Publisher).  I also have documentation of him in Fayette County in the 1860 census, aged 50, living with his wife, Mary Ann (BARKLEY) HARTON (aged 49), Manerva (22), and son, John (11).  Two male children between the ages of 5 and 10 were living with him and his wife in the 1840 Alabama census.  According to land deeds and oral history, there was a HARTON Family cemetery on the Green T. Harton land that straddled the Lamar/Fayette County line South of Belk.  I believe it was destroyed over the years.  We have never found any markers but we were told it existed by Wanease HARTON MOORE WALDROP, granddaughter of Dr. J.B. HARTON, who lived on that farm as a little girl.  We know that Greene T. Harton's son, Dr. John Barkley HARTON was buried in the Antioch Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Belk, AL.  I can't imagine that someone who had been a public servant like Greene T. HARTON would have been buried in an unmarked grave even if it was on his property!  Is there a public cemetery in Fayette or Lamar County where he could have been buried?  Was he buried back in NC?  Where is his wife buried?

Hello, I am looking for information on Thomas A. ROSE and his wife Sarah E. ROSE.  They were in Mantua, Greene Co. Al. in the 1900 census, he was 71 and she was about the same age.  It is believed that they moved to Fayette, Al. and were both deceased prior to the 1910 census.  If anyone can advise me how to proceed on my search, I would appreciate it.  I have looked through most of, but not all of, the cemetery records on-line.  They had a son living in Fayette in the 1910 Census, Edward ROSE.  Thank you for any advice or help. McCOOL  •  SIMS  •  LIVINGSTON

Pat Dakin Sat Nov 10 07:35:31 2007
SIMS and McCOOL, Fayette Co., AL. Sarah Rebecca McCool mar. abt 1850-1860 to Burrell/Burwell Sims, b. abt 1835 AL.  He was son of T.G. Sims, b. SC, and Sarah, b. SC; had a bro. Benjamin, b. AL.  In 1850 the Sims family was living in Oktibbeha Co., MS.  Sarah Rebecca McCool was living with her family B.C. McCool in Fayette Co., AL.  B.C. McCool also b. SC.  On the 1850 census Sarah was listed as age 18; Burwell was listed as age 14.  "Burrel/Bural/Burwell" Sims died 1 June 1862, Civil War.  He mustered in 29 May 1862, Tuscaloosa Co., AL.  His age was listed as 28. (Records from Ala. State Archives)  His widow Rebecca applied for widow's pension.  He was in the 41st Al. Inf. Regiment.  Burwell and Sarah were living in Oktibbeha Co., MS on the 1860 census.  The Federal Land Patents show he applied for land, Fayette Co., AL, July 2, 1860.  After he died, Sarah Rebecca was listed on the 1870 census living with her parents in Fayette Co., AL.  In 1880 she was living with parents, Fayette Co., AL.  In 1900 she was living with her sister Mary Ann (McCool) Livingston and Jackson Livingston.  Rebecca was listed as Sims, Rebecca - S-in-law - b. Aug. 1833, age 66 - widowed - had 3 children, 2 living, b. AL, father b. GA, mother b. VA, cannot read, write, speaks English.  In 1910 she was living with Mary Ann and Jackson Livingston.  Rebecca d. 10 Sep 1911, Fayette Co.  She was buried in the Owens Family Cemetery, Fayette Co. in an unmarked grave. (Despite the discrepancy of father's birthplace, B.C. McCool was b. SC.)  There were no Sims children listed on any of the censuses.  If Rebecca gave birth to 3 children and 2 were living in 1900, who were they, where were they, and why were they not listed with her in 1870?  No descendants were listed on her widow's pension application.  Any information on this family group will be appreciated. ~ Pat Dakin; patdakin@mindspring.com

ROSE

Betty Matthews Sat Nov 17 13:10:43 2007
Sarah Jordan ROSE died June 25, 1908 after having lived in Fayette for two months, possibly with her son Edward ROSE.  She is buried in Fayette Cemetery.  Her death certificate lists her as a widow - her husband Thomas A. ROSE's headstone at Fayette Cemetery states that he died in 1908 but the State has no death certificate.  If I could find records or notes of some kind on his death, I may be able to find out who his father was and open up a new generation.  I would appreciate any suggestions with much thanks.  ~ Betty Matthews
