These unidentified photos were found in a box that belonged to Gains Martin "Jack" NEWTON (1922–2006), formerly of Fayette, AL.  The photos depict relatives and friends of the NEWTON family in Fayette County.  Jack's father was Eugene NEWTON, whose parents were William Taylor NEWTON and Velutia Jane WHITLEY.  Eugene's sister, Lillian (NEWTON) GILLIAM, was very active in the DAR society in Fayette.  Jack's mother was Velma OTTS, also from Fayette.  Her parents were J. Mart OTTS and Lela ALLEN (possibly #18 below).  Velma's brother was Henry OTTS, and her maternal grandparents were W.R. ALLEN and Dora NEWMAN.

Three of the portrait photos (#7, #19, & #27) are attributed to the J. Willie Johnson Studio, which was located in Fayette until about 1908.  Another portrait (#14) was taken by the J.D. Huffman Art Gallery in Tupelo, MS.  Handwritten notes on the backs suggest that #11 was taken in Kennedy, AL, and #24 was taken on 23 Sep 1915.

"It's a shame to not have all these photos identified.
By the time we became aware of them, none of the older generation were left to identify them."
Ron Newton
