Rick Herring, author of The Family and Descendants of Captain James Farquhar, Revolutionary War Patriot, and Selected Allied Families, has worked to maintain the abandoned "Fowler-Harris Cemetery" since 1979.  On his last visit in December 2016, Rick was accompanied by his 22-year-old son, Reese Herring, and 18-year-old nephew, Cal Tacker.  "I had not been there in a number of years and feared for the condition of the cemetery.  As you can see from the 'before' pictures [below left & middle] it was quite overgrown with pine seedlings and other volunteers.  My son, nephew and me spent the better part of a day clearing as much as we could and the result was pretty good, as you can see from the 'after' picture [below right].  The graveyard is the resting place of my great-great-great-grandparents, Adlai (1793-1876) and Malinda Ford Harris (1823-1906), and numerous other relatives.  Adlai Harris was a veteran of the War of 1812 as well as being Fayette County treasurer and an Alabama state representative.  There are two rows of his children and grandchildren buried there."  Thanks, Rick, for sharing your time and energy to preserve this small plot of Fayette County history!  [4] New!
