What's New @ Fayette County in 2019

Fayette Co.,
AL Fayette County was created 20 Dec 1824 from portions of Tuscaloosa and Marion counties.  It is located in the northwest-central section of the state (left).  The county was named for General Lafayette (right), who was touring Alabama at the time of the county's formation.  The first post office was established at Fayette Court House (the county seat) on 14 Feb 1826.  The name of the office/town was shortened to Fayette on 26 May 1892.  Unfortunately, a courthouse fire in 1866 resulted in the loss of numerous early records.
