Melton, the constable of Gadsden beat, was taken ill one day last week and passed away about dark Sunday afternoon. He had been complaining for several days before taking his bed, and rapidly grew worse, and in spite of medical attention, passed away. Mr. Melton was the constable of Gadsden beat, and was a faithful officer, accommodating, painstaking and ever ready to do his duty. His remains were laid away at Shiloh cemetery, eleben miles below Gadsden, last Monday afternoon. He was an honored member of the Queen City Hose Co., and the entire fire company attended his funeral in a body in full uniform. He leaves a wife and several children and an aged mother and father to mourn his death. A few days before his sickness Mr. Melton told some of his friends that he was going to die, naming the day and date, and asking his friends to look after his wife and children.
