Long Lowry, one of DeKalb County's oldest and most prominent citizens, and who had spent her entire 97 years near Valley Head, passed away at her Oak Lawn home Saturday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. She had enjoyed reasonably good health for the past several years, but became ill about tow weeks ago. She was united in marriage to George M. D. Lowry on Jan 5, 1871. He preceded her in death in November, 1833. Mrs. Lowry was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church for many years. She was possessed of a brilliant mentality and her sweet personality made friends of all acquaintances. The passing of this good woman will be mourned by countless friends, not only in the section where she had resided for those many years, but throughout our County and State. Surviving are five sons, J. H. F. Lowry, Chattanooga; George A. Lowry, Wichita Falls, Tex.; N. T. Lowry, Nashville; R. D. Lowry, Valley Head; F. N. Lowry, Tallahasset, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. W. C. White, Atlanta; Mrs. W. B. Thompson, Valley Head; one sister, Mrs. J. L. Gardner, Rockvale, Tenn. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church in Valley Head at 3:00 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Mr. Brasher, Rev. J. M. White, Rev. Robert White and Rev. Frank Price officiating. Pallbearers were P. N. Davenport, H. R. Davenport, R. N. Jones, C. E. Bell, J. P. McKown and Thomas Hoge. Burial in Valley Head cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home in charge.
