DeKalb County, ALGenWeb The Fort Payne Journal Fort Payne, Alabama Wednesday, 17 October 1900 Page 1 Mr. P. H. Lankford Dead. Mr. P. H. Lankford died at his home in south Fort Payne on last Thursday night about ten o'clock of pneumonia fever, aged about 68 years. By a second marriage he leaves a widow and three small children and by the first, several children all about grown and a host of relatives. He was an upright honorable citizen and while he made few close friends yet he had the respect of all who knew him He was a confederate veteran and his old comrades in arms say he made a good soldier. Mr. Lankford made no public demonstration of a change of spirit but told his family a day or two before his death that he had been secretly praying to the Lord and that he believed he was all right and that he was going to enter into eternal rest in the city of God. Deceased was laid to rest on Saturday at the Lankford grave yard two miles north-west of town.
