DeKalb County ALGENWEB The Fort Payne Journal Fort Payne, Alabama Wednesday, 18 April 1945 Page 1 Sgt. Martin F. Ables Killed in Action Sgt. Martin F. Ables, the son of Rev. and Mrs. R. E. Ables, of Geraldine, has been reported killed in action in Germany on April 1st. Before volunteering for the army April 5th, 1943, Martin was a student at the University of Alabama. He was 22 years of age. He had been a devout and active Christian since he was a boy of eight years. He was popular with his classmates and friends and had many honors conferred upon him during his school days and also after he entered the army. MARTIN ABLES Funeral services for Martin F. Ables, 23, son of Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Ables, of Geraldine, who was killed in Germany April 1, 1945, will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Geraldine Baptist Church with the Rev. W. B. Shirey officiating. Pallbearers will be Cecil Stallings, Joe Chitwood, Lionel Mitchell, LeRoy Johnson, Morris D. Freeman and Vermon Tedder. Sgt. Ables was born near Fyffe where he attended the Fyffe schools At the time of his entry into the service he was a student at the University of Alabama. He entered the seervice April 2, 1944. He was a member of the Geraldine Baptist Church. Other than his parents he is survived by four brothers, Everett, Geraldine; Charles, Auburn; Bill and Ed, both of Geraldine; five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Driskill, Jacksonville; Mrs. Mary A Burke, Boaz; Miss Lois Pearl Ables, Boaz; Misses Sara and Rebecca Ables, Geraldine. Burial will be in Geraldne Baptist Church Cemetery with Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. His body is scheduled to arrive in Fort Payne Friday at 5:46 p.m., November 12, and will be carried to the home of his parents at Geraldine where it will remain until the hour of the service.
