He was a police officer in Mobile from what I've heard. All four boys were born in Choctaw Co.

His father was GERSHAM FAGAN but Gersham is only listed in the 1870 census for Choctaw Co. Married to MARY WOOD, daughter of HARRY WOOD who was born in Mississippi but was living with MARY & GERSHAM FAGAN in the 1870 census and Harry was 60 in the 1870 census so he would have been born around 1810. They also had a daughter LETTUCI FAGAN and was 2 years old in the 1870 census.

Family members are:
GEORGE W. FAGAN born November, 1839. Married to MARTHA J., born October, 1846. He was the local deacon/elder of the Methodist church. He also had an adopted son named JAMES SLATER, B. 1893.
There is also a connection to the AMY SINGLEY family. She married B. H. FAGAN January 1, 1876. G. W. Fagan, G. M. married them.

My e-mail address is: Anteats@aolcom.

Any information on the Fagan, WOOD, Taylor, or Singley line would be greatly appreciated. This is a great service. Hope to see the Fagan name on the index and maybe I will get some response. Have not been able to find GERSHAM FAGAN anywhere but the 1870 census living next door to GEORGE W. FAGAN.

BONNER/McINNIS

J. H. McInnis
My family connection to Choctaw Co. goes back to the earliest days when Alabama was still part of the Miss. Territory. Jordan BONNER and his family lived in the northern portion of Washington Co. as did my paternal Great Grandfather Philip McINNIS. G.-G. Phil married Wilmoth Almira BONNER (daughter of Jordan and Mary/Polly Adams BONNER) in early 1847, before the creation of Choctaw Co. The 1850 census lists them as Phil McINIS (he seems to have insisted on only one "n") and "Wilmuth"--well, that's close. By 1859 when my Grandfather (James William McInnis) was born they had moved across the state line to Wayne Co., Miss., where they stayed. Jordan BONNER died in Washington Co. in 1841 leaving quite a number of children from a total of three marriages, some of whom lived and died in what became Choctaw Co. I wish I could locate his grave but my one visit to Choctaw Co. didn't turn it up.

PRICE/PELT

Briscoe Price
If anyone has any info on William M. & Martha Ann Pelt PRICE, I would appreciate hearing from you. These were my great, great grandparents. What I know about them is that they were married in Meridian, MS on 11/3/1842. It is likely that they were living in one of the western Alabama counties in proximity to Meridian. I have looked at Federal Census Records for surrounding counties and find PRICE surname in several and PELT only in Clarke County. I have found in my search across the Southeast that the surname PELT is not that common, so there is perhaps a connection/tie to those in this part of Alabama. I am at the proverbial brick wall on this one, so I would appreciate any help. Will also gladly share info on their descendents that I have.

SHOEMAKER/MILLS/CAVIT

Kaye Walters
Moses Theophilus Shoemaker was married to Talitha Jane Mills in Choctaw County around 1850. Moses was the son of John Shoemaker (b.Aug 10, 1790) and Rebecca Farmer (b.Sept. 22, 1796). John was the son of William Shoemaker and Suzanna Cavit. Who were the parents of Talitha Jane Mills? Oral family history details that she was of Indian heritage and actually practiced Indian folk medicine. There were other Mills in the county. Were they kin to Talitha?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WIMBERLY

LarryWimberly
I'm looking for information on William Wimberly. What is known: He appears in the 1850 and 1870 census for Choctaw Co and is married to Susan ?. He also appears on the Personnal Property Tax list for 1849 for Choctaw County. He was born abt 1816 to 1819 in South Carolina , but I can't find any info to verify this other than census records after 1850. We believe he died in 1884 and is buried in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Melvin in Choctaw Co. His wife Susan was born in Alabama abt 1828 and may have had the initials S H I, but can't verify this either. Most likely they got married in Ala so if you know who she was or know where any marriage records are it would be appreciated. They had 10 children including my great grandfater, William Benjamin Wimberly who I have had good luck tracing. However we have had no luck in tracing any of the brothers and sisters (Green B., Ira B., Susan, Martha, Eli, Prilla, Abbey, Linus and Amanda). They were all born in Alabama. I cannot locate the family in the 1860 or 1880 census, but it is most likely they were in Ala in both instances, since all the children were born there between 1845 and 1868. Any help you can give me in tracking these folks including sources for census, marriage, death, wills, deeds, or whatever would be appreciated.
