Butler County, Alabama

submitted by: Mildred Stinson Brown

The following is an excerpt from Rev. J. W. Joyner's book, A History of the Baptists in Butler County ( 1819-1957).

This church was organized on the second Sunday in September, 1914. Elder T. T. DOBBS was in charge, and the charter members were B. B. CUMBIE, A. P. CUMBIE, R. E. TINDAL, Mrs. Josephine TINDAL, Mrs. Emma CUMBIE, John RAYBON, Hillary RAYBON, Mrs. Fannie RAYBON, M. W. BARRINTON, Mrs. Fannie BARRINGTON, and Mrs. Bama RAYBON.

Pastors serving this church were T. T. DOBBS, E. L. GILLENTINE, A. D. VAUGHN, J. R. G. GREGORY, H. A. MULLINS, and the present pastor R. Z. MULLINS, who has served for a number of yers.

Before coming into the Butler Association, Midway Church was a member of Live Oak Association. This church has had a Sunday School for years, but is not attended by the members as well as it should be. For the past year it has had a Training Union, but does not have a Woman's Missionary Union.

The church has already completed plans for a new church building to be erected in the near future.

This information was given the writer by Kerby PHELPS (We have no picture of this church.)
