The following is an excerpt from Rev. J. W. Joyner's book, A History of the Baptists in Butler County ( 1819-1957).

This church was organized March 24, 1954. The presbytery in charge was composed of Rev. Otis WILLIAMS, Rev. R. Z. MULLINS, and Rev. I. S. TRANUM. 

The charter members were Mr. Howard LITTLE, Mrs. Howard LITTLE, Mrs. T. L. PAGE, Miss Dorothy LUCKEY, Mrs. A. J. BUTLER, Mr. Oystravaiku BUTLER, Miss Betty SIMMONS, Miss Sue SIMMONS, Mr. T. P. NELSON, Mrs. T. P. NELSON, Miss Linnie BRADON, Miss OSCAR BURGANS, Mrs. Audie Lee BENDER, Mr. A. J. BUTLER, Miss Mary PAGE, Sam BENDER, Guy BENDER, John BENDER, Mr. Benjamin BUTLER,, and Mrs. A. B. BUTLER. Rev. Irby S. TRANUM is pasotr. 

Liberty Church has licensed two young men as ministers: Billy Eugene OSWALD, Jr., and William TRANUM. 

This church has a fully accredited Sunday School -- holds Vaction Bible School and has an Extension Department. The church has a fully accredited Woman's Missionary Union, and Mrs. Billy OSWALD is the president. Billy Gene OSWALD is director of a fully accredited Training Union. 

Liberty is the youngest church in the Butler Association; is very active, and has a bright future.
