Old Shiloh Cemetery Photos

Photos on this page submitted by Mildred Stinson Brown

The first four photos were taken April 7, 2004 of the Old Shiloh Cemetery. It is in horrible condition. Someone has been cutting timber and just let the trees fall on and destroy the chainlink fence around the cemetery.

UPDATE:   21 Aug 2005.         -    See new photos added below.

I just returned from Butler County . . .  I stopped by a few new and old cemeteries.  One of those was the Old Shiloh Cemetery.  I was shocked by what I saw.  In another year the cemetery will not be accessible.  I had a hard time taking the attached photos and couldn't find many of the remaining graves.

. . .To my knowledge this is not from storm damage.  The tree that is down at the gate may have been from the storm but most of the trees have been sawed.  The weeds are taller than my head.  It was too bad to attempt to go up on the hill to look at the oldest graves there... the ones from the Butler Massacre family.

The last time the cemetery was cleaned up that I recall was when the Wilson family placed the chainlink fence around the Wilson plot . . . several years ago.  I would think that the folks who do the Shiloh Cemetery would do this one since they are from the same church.  Both the Old Shiloh and current Shiloh Cemetery are about 1/2 mile apart.

Last year I took photos of all of the markers that were still visible.  Besides the family of Jacob Ferguson and the Wilsons, I don't recall who is buried there.  Most of the Wilson family in Butler County who are descended from David Russell Wilson are deceased.  There is a descendant who was living in Lakeland, FL, last I heard.  I don't know of any of the Ferguson family.         -    Mildred Brown
