Between the two Flints, Robert Vest lived, and raised a large family. He was a most excellent man, industrious, economising, and honest as a proverb. When he was an old man, I heard him say his corn crib and smoke-house never was empty, nor had he bought a pound of meat or a bushel of corn. His farm was self-sustaining. He lived and died oweing no man anything. He raised a large family of good men and women. William Vest, his eldest son, owns his own home and is one of the county's best citizens. H.N. Vest of Center Springs, is another son. He is a man of great energy and independant thought. An excellent man and true friend. Obediah Vest was a brother of Robert Vest. Sr. and lived near him. He was an honest man, but not so thrifty as his brother. Obid was terribly afraid of snakes. This his brother knew, and took delight in alarming him. On one occasion on the way to the creek, Robert got behind Obid and ran his fishing cane by the side of him and cried "snakes". Obid sprang into the air expecting the fangs of a rattler. On seeing the ruse, he cried "look here Bob, if you don't quit that foolishness, you will have somebody bit." Mr Vest loved a little amusment, but in every way was a gentleman. Buried: Moss Chapel Cemetery, Morgan Co., Alabama
