GIRL MEETS DEATH BENEATH WHEELS

Miss Pauline Holliday, daughter of Mr and Mrs Matt Holliday of near Leesdale, met instant death under the wheels of Louisville & Nashville train No. 3 just north of Cedar Creek bridge, a half mile north of Leesdale.

The only witness of the death was Engineer Harrison of Decatur. According to him, the girl laid herself across the rails in front of the approaching train, with the apparent intention of suicide. It was impossible to bring the train to a stop in time to avert the tragedy, the victim being struck with such force as to cause instant death.

Miss Holliday resided with her parents in a tent a short distance from the scene of her death. The young lady, who was 19 years of age, and highly esteemed in the neighborhood where she resided, is said to have taught the first part of the current term at Mt. View school.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Bethel Church, where interment also took place.
