Old Pleasant Plains Cemetery

Complete Listing

Source: Patricia Long

Every effort has been made to read this cemetery correctly. However, most of the tombstones are broken and in pieces. I'm sure there are some unmarked graves. I have personally read this cemetery, but I have also used pages 107 & 108 of the Henry Co. Tomb book to check some of the dates and graves.

Location: Take Hwy 52 east out of Dothan, Alabama. Turn north on County Rd. 55 to dead end. This is Hwy. 22. Turn left or west and go about 2 1/2 miles. There is a dirt road that runs along the side of a house between 2 fields. You can only turn right into the dirt road. On the south side of Hwy 22 there is a Truman Road sign. The cemetery is located on the right side about a mile down the dirt road..

PARKER, William Henry, Sr Feb 07 1811 Sep 08 1894 Info from Henry Co. Book - I found no grave. William Henry Parker, Sr, his wife Elizabeth and four of their children came to Henry County around 1840 and settled near the Gilley Mill area. He sent five sons to the WBTS; two were killed/died in Tennessee; two returned to Henry County (one being Miles Holland who is buried near his father) and one I am unable to account for at this point in time. Two daughters, Rachel Rebecca and Sorilda, are buried there as well. Although not documented, I believe Dortha to be the wife of Jesse M. C. Parker, who is one of the Confederate Soldiers who died in Tennessee. I think some of the others are her children/grandchildren. New Monument 2001. [Source: Cherry P Stewart]
