Piney Grove Cemetery

Complete Listing

Source: Patricia Long

Location: on Hwy 173 north of Headland toward Newville. Cross the railroad tracks 2 miles north on left.

There was a school originally. The church was formed in 1849. The new building was built in 1888. The rows are not straight. Therefore, this reading is not precise as to the placement. Every effort has been made to read each one. Some of the graves are so worn and broken that it is impossible to tell the dates or the names on them.

BRAXTON/BROXTON,Annie Bell Jul 15 1906 Aug 09 1993 I was looking at the Piney Grove Cemetery listing for the Braxton family. It should be Broxton with an "O". The reason I know this is because Sidney M. Broxton is the son of Wiley G. & Martha Broxton. Martha Broxton use to be a Nowell when she was married to Arnold Nowell before he was supposedly killed in the Civil War. Several years later she married Wiley G. Broxton. [Source: Don Mills]
