~ James B. Morton's "Class Book" ~
(1892)

The names below were found in an old ledger that belonged to James B. MORTON.  On the front is the title, "Class Book," and the date, "May 4, 1892."  Other handwritten notes in the ledger say "Mr. J.B. Mortons Book / bougt [sic] March the 17 of 1889" and "Winfield, Alabama."

Almost exactly 15 years earlier, Mr. MORTON had deeded one-half acre of land to "the Methodist Episcopal Church known as Ebel."  Based on the available evidence, this "Class Book" probably lists the members of that church at the date indicated (see article on Ebel Methodist Church here).  If you can provide additional information about the church and/or its members, please contact the contributor.
