Etowah County ALGenWeb The Journal Tribune Gadsden, Alabama Thursday, November 23, 1899 Page 8 THE OLD, OLD STORY Attalla Couple Came to Birmingham to Wed. B. H. Stowers and Miss Mollie Cox, both of Attalla, cam to Birmingham yesterday and were quietly married. The bride's parents objected to their daughter's marriage for the reason that she was an only child and they wanted her to remain at home with them. Yesterday morning she came to Birmingham, supposedly to visit friends, but in reality to become the wife of the man she loved. On the same train with her was Mr. Stowers, and on their arrival in Birmingham he proceeded at once to the court house, where a marriage license was obtained from Probate Judge Stiles. With his bride-to=be and a few friends Mr. Stowers then went out to Oventon, where Rev. Mr. Glenn, president of the North Alabama Conference college, performed the ceremony that made the run-away couple man and wife. Letters were sent by the afternoon train to the parents of the bride at Attalla, notifying them of the marriage. Mr. Stowers is a prosperous business man, being the junior member of the Stowers Mining company of Attalla, and his bride is a very popular belle of that place. Mr. and Mrs. Stowers will return to Attalla today. - Age-Herald.
