Etowah County ALGenWeb The Gadsden Times-News Gadsden, Alabama Tuesday, February 21, 1899 Page 2 A SHORT HONEYMOON. Ed Cox Was Married and Jailed in Less Than an Hour. Ed Cox, a young man who worked at the cotton mills, had the shortest honeymoon on record in this section last Thursday. Ed Cox and Miss Lula Hunter came in on the 10 o'clock dummy Tuesday and were married by Joe. S. Moragne in the probate office. The happy couple returned to Alabama City on the same dummy, and as he stepped from the train with his bride Deputy Sheriff Lister arrested him on a bench warrant from Rome, Ga., charging him with an assault and intent to murder. He was at once brought to Gadsden with is brother, Tom Cox, and both placed in jail on the same charge. They were carried to Rome Saturday to answer to the above charge. It was one of the shortest honeymoons on record and we sympathize with the young lady, who was so soon torn from her husband.
