BENNETT, LANGLEY, RAPER, SMITH, WILLIAMS I am trying to help my grandmother
locate info on her grandfather. Lou Mildred RAPER, born Oct. 10, 1922, in Dooly
Co., Georgia. The daughter of Louis J. RAPER and Louella WILLIAMS. The Rapers
had lived in Cave Springs, GA and Louis was stationed at the army base in
Anniston. They met and married in Floyd Co., Ga in 1918. Then moved to south
Georgia. Louella who was rasied using the last name, BENNETT was the daughter of
Emily Lou SMITH and Jim WILLIAMS. No marriage record can be found for Emily or
Jim but they lived in Calhoun Co., before they married. They were together for
only a short time then separated. Hardly anything is known about Jim. The only
and last time Louella ever saw her father was shortly after she married in 1918.
Jim supposedly lived way atop Sand Mountain. He was still living then. He
offered them some of his land to farm but Emily refused to allow it and so they
never saw one another again. Emily later remarried William G. BENNETT and they
had two daughters, Bell who married and Bessie who rmeained a spinster. Emily
raised Louella as a BENNETT and on her mariage certificate it says BENNETT.
After William died she was briefly married to James LANGLEY of Calhoun CO. She
died in Calhoun Co and is buried at Goshen Cemetary. My grandmother, Mildred and
I have tried desperately to find info on her grandfather Jim with no luck. If
anyone can help please let me know. Michael K. Lashley
