Does anyone have any information on Miles W. Sims (b. 1826)and Sarah "Sally"
Webster (b. 1826) who married 30 Jan 1850 in Benton (Calhoun) County, AL, with
D.D. Draper, JP, officiating? Evidently, Miles was subsequently murdered (around
1860) by Clement Still (b. 1840), who was the younger brother of Elizabeth Jane
Still Webster (b. 1830), the wife of Leroy Henry Webster (b. 1820), who was the
older brother of Sarah "Sally" Webster sims. I'm familiar with the interesting
accounts in the Heritage book series. What I would like to find is some sort of
contemporary account of the event - a newspaper article, a court record, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas as to best way of going about that?

SMITH 1870 Census, Calhoun Co AL On the 1860 census the family of Henry &
Margret SMITH is listed for Moulton, AL. It includes a son, Calvin, age 4. I am
attempting to determine if this is my g-g-grandfather's family. My
g-grandfather's name was Calvin Smith. He was born in GA in the mid 1850's. His
father died during the time of the Civil War. As a young man he lived in
Cherokee Co, AL. That's all we know of his early years. The apparently widowed
Margaret is found in Calhoun Co, Al, in 1870 and as Margaret Lewis in Floyd Co,
GA, in 1880. Her son, Calvin, remained with her in 1880. This is the best lead I
have found to date, and I would appreciate any information. Thanks, Carol Wilson

I want to know if there is Platt map of Calhoun County,Alabama for the year
1900. I am researching my HOLDEN line and have a Galenda Holden who has a
Landgrant(1897 is the year) for 160 acres, the location are in Township 12S.
Range 8-E, in secton 36, she has lots 3,5,6, and 12. I know lot numbers are not
proper discriptions, but that is what her land grant saids instead of the SW 1/4
of the SE 1/2 for example. I just would like a copy of a 1900 Platt map of
Calhoun County,Alabama if their is one. Sincerely, Mark Jackson
