I have found in the 1860 cs for Calhoun (Benton) County that my grgrgrandmother lived there. Her name was Lucinda,(Laucinda), PARKS and she had 4 children: Martha 8, Sarah 6, Amanda 5, (my grgrandmother), and Thomas D.,4. I have found also that she married a Thomas BEAM later in 1860. Jefferson Davis MAXWELL was born in November 1860, most probably in Calhoun County AL. His mother's name may have been Lucy or Lucinda. Jefferson Davis married twice (second marriage was to Francis HOLDER) and by 1880 is a farmer in his own household. PHILIPSON/PHILLIPSON My maternal grandmother told me that her grandmother(?) was named Tina (LEWISHON spelling not known for sure) PHILIPSON. Our family had a Louis, Julius and Samuel PHILIPSON who lived and worked in Birmingham, AL in 1889. (19th between 2nd and 3rd Ave.) The Ancestry.com Alabama Death Index for 1908 to 1959 lists the death of a Tena PHILLIPSON in Calhoun County in Dec 1937. I have not yet sent away for the information. I hope that someone reading this may have some info to indicate this may be a match before I pay out $20 for something that may not be a match. I will also post this for Jefferson County and Etowah County because I found a Louis PHILIPSON died in Etowah County June 11, 1949 and Julius died in November 1935 in Jefferson County. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The 1880 census in Dyer County shows Lela Davis W M 1869 Grandson living with S.F. W F 55 born in Georgia. We are asumming that Calber is dead. We are unsure of how Sarah was before or if Calber is the father's name. We need your help. This family is such a mistery! Anyone with any information that will help please contact me! We would like to find the missing links!

She married Edward Lee LAYTON sometime before July, 21, 1897. They lived in Ensley, Jefferson Co., AL for 30 yrs. Helping a friend in Calhoun County research, a couple of questions:
1. When her ancestor William Franklin BEARD died in Texas in 1942, he left 3 brothers Lester, J. M., and Henry of Woodward, Alabama.....I believe this was the Woodward in Calhoun County, but can't locate it on a map..1895 Atlas says it was on the Railroad, but did not have a post office. Anyone know the site of Woodward, Calhoun County?

Giles PETTIT lived for a time in Peak's Hill, Benton Co. He was in the Civil War. I have seen that he was in the 19th Alabama Infantry but I cannot find any conformation of that in the Company rosters. Does anyone know which unit he was in. Thanks.
